tiConf speaker Pratik Patel

Pratik PatelNext up in our series of interviews with tiConf speakers is Praktik Patel of TripLingo. He will speak about Working With Data in Titanium on May 10th at tiConf US.

Tell us something about yourself

I’m the CTO of TripLingo, our product is the “ultimate app for travelers” and is built on Titanium! I invented the Internet when I was 12 years old… seriously though, I don’t have a cat, but I do have a large number of chipmunks that live in my backyard.

How did you get to use Titanium?

I’ve been building apps on Titanium since late 2010. It’s been an incredible journey since the first versions of Titanium. I love demo’ing the power of building an app with Titanium along with the community built tools around it – and the “HOLY SH*T” look on their face is priceless.

How do you see the future of Titanium?

I believe that the future of Titanium is bright with the Ti.Next/Hyperloop project around the corner. I’m super excited at the performance improvements and faster module development time that will come along with it.

Sell us your session at tiConf!

In my session I’ll talk in detail about different techniques and tools you can use within your Titanium app to make working with data easy and fun. Often times, developers get frustrated that dealing with local and server-side data is complex and onerous – but it doesn’t have to be that way at all. Applying functional programming techniques in JavaScript makes doing data transformations logical and straightforward. Also, knowing the options (SQLite & NoSQL) for storing data locally can help you decide the best path for your app.

And what is it you look forward to yourself?

It’s been a while since Codestrong, so I’m most looking forward to hanging out with other Titanium developers. We have a great community of developers, along with the folks from Appcelerator – hence, attending the TiConf will be more like a family reunion than other conferences I go to. As for sessions, I’m most looking forward to Jeff’s keynote, but also interested in checking the tricks and techniques my fellow Titanium devs use in the other sessions.

– Thanks Pratik!
